Amnesty Won’t Comply with Hungary Law Regulating Foreign and Soros-Funded NGOs

Szilard Koszticsak/MTI via AP by Breitbart London28 Jun 20170 28 Jun, 201728 Jun, 2017 BUDAPEST, Hungary (AP) — Amnesty International has joined a boycott of new, mandatory reporting rules for foreign-funded civic groups in Hungary, the group said Tuesday. According to the government, the law that went into effect Tuesday is meant to increase transparency, but critics see it as an effort to stifle political dissent. advertisement “Amnesty International has every intention of challenging Hungary’s repressive new NGO law in the courts … and no intention of complying with it until all these avenues have been exhausted,” Amnesty International Hungary director Julia Ivan said. Civic groups receiving more than around $26,200 a year from abroad have to register with the courts within 15 days and include in most of their online and printed publications that they are foreign-funded. The law passed earlier this month reflects the conflict between Prime Minister Viktor Orban and Hungarian-American financier George Soros, whose ideal of an “open society” is at odds with Orban’s desire to turn Hungary into an “illiberal state.” Soros’ Open Society Foundations support some of the non-governmental organizations affected by the law, such as the Hungarian Helsinki Committee, a human rights advocate, and corruption watchdog Transparency International. The government sees those groups as “foreign agents” working against Hungarian interests, especially by supporting the rights of asylum-seekers. Hungary has imposed strict measures...

Trump EPA to Dump ‘WOTUS’; Frees 247 Million Acres of Farmland

Ron Sachs/CNP/MediaPunch/IPX by Chriss W. Street28 Jun 2017Newport Beach, CA0 28 Jun, 201727 Jun, 2017 The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced Tuesday, to the delight of rural America, that the Trump administration is moving to rescind the Obama era’s “Waters of the United States” (WOTUS) regulatory rule. WOTUS gave the federal government effective authority over water use on 247 million acres of American farmland. advertisement EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt, together with Secretary of the Army for Civil Works Douglas Lamont, signed a proposed regulatory rescission of WOTUS. As soon as the proposed rule change can be published in the Federal Register, under Docket ID No. EPA-HQ-OW-2017-0203, the public will have a 30-day comment period to “review and revise” the definition of “waters of the United States.” The EPA took to Twitter at #WOTUS to call its action a significant step to return power to states and provide regulatory certainty to the nation’s farmers and businesses. The EPA added that its decision is consistent with the Executive Order signed by President Trump on February 28, aimed at “Restoring the Rule of Law, Federalism, and Economic Growth by Reviewing the ‘Waters of the United States’ Rule.” The Obama administration’s WOTUS regulatory expansion cleverly redefined the term “navigable waters” to include “intermittent streams.” Environmental activists hailed the WOTUS’s expansion of federal jurisdiction over land and water use as an essential common-sense-rule to...

Bernie Sanders Ties Politics to FBI Investigation of His Wife — ‘That’s Pretty Pathetic’

Tuesday on CNN’s “Outfront,” Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), once a candidate for the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination, told host Erin Burnett his wife Jane Sanders was “about the honest person” he knew when asked about reports of an FBI investigation of her financial dealings. advertisement Sanders connected the investigation to President Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign and called it “pathetic” that his wife was under what he called an “attack.” “My wife is about the most honest person I know,” Sanders said. “When she came to that college, it was failing financially and academically. When she left it, it was in better shape. Five years later, just at the moment — coincidentally, no doubt — when I am a candidate for president of the United States, Donald Trump’s campaign manager, vice chairman of the Republican Party in Vermont, launched this investigation. So, all I will tell you now, Erin, is it is a sad state of affairs in America not only when we have politicians being destroyed — when there are attacks against elected officials, but when you go after people’s wives. That’s pretty pathetic. And that’s where we are right now, and that’s all that I want to say.” “I think it’s pathetic that when people are involved in public life, it’s not only they get attacked, but it is their wives and their families that get attacked,” he added....

Leftists Promising to ‘Desecrate Graves’ and Protest During 154th Anniversary of Battle of Gettysburg

During the first days of July, 154 years ago, a great battle was fought in and around Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, during our Civil War. Today, as the anniversary approaches, members of the so-called “Antifa” movement are promising to “desecrate” the graves of those who fell in that fight and to mount protests as Americans gather to memorialize the battle. advertisement Gettysburg has become a great attraction for Americans, many of whom troop there annually to celebrate the anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg, a conflagration that is often termed the “high tide” of the civil war for turning the war in favor of the federal armies vying to end slavery and save the union. But as the 154th-anniversary celebration gears up for the coming month, leftists are making plans for a battle of their own. Only they plan to fight against the country, to “desecrate” history, and to disrupt the thousands of Americans and foreign visitors who intend to honor our past. Gettysburg town officials, as well as the federal battlefield park officials, have acknowledged warnings that several protest groups are targeting the annual celebration this year, according to Philly.com. Several legitimate and long-existing groups have attained permits to gather, including the Sons of Confederate Veterans. But others are planning protests without attaining permits, the paper reports. According to Harrisbirg 100, at least one “Antifa” group began informing supporters that...
